The State of Washington is Trying to Force a Christian Ministry to Hire Staff Who Undermine Their Christian Mission and Values – by Staff Researcher

According to March 27th Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) newsletter, a new law in the state of Washington is attempting to force the Christian Union Gospel Mission in Yakima Washington to hire employees who undermine their Christian mission and values and has accused the Mission of “unlawful sexual orientation discrimination,” due to the Mission’s policy that its 150 employees embrace Biblical standards of sexuality and marriage.

The Mission hires those who share the Mission’s vision to preach the Gospel and demonstrate the love of Christ through helping those in need.  The Mission has provided a total of 33,759 nights of shelter to homeless adults and children and has served 141,629 free meals to the hungry in the last year alone.  The Mission runs a free health clinic, along with transitional and recovery programs serving the homeless and those seeking to get free from substance abuse and transition into a productive lifestyle through a year-long, faith-based residential program. The Mission has filed a lawsuit in federal court to protect their rights to hire people who embrace a Christian belief and lifestyle.
